Remains Of Long-Missing WWII Soldier ID’d
The Department of Defense said a Pittsburgh man is among 12 U.S. soldiers whose remains have finally been positively identified after the group went missing in action during World War II.

 Army Air Force 2nd Lt. Regis E. Dietz was 28 and newly married when he shipped to the Pacific theatre in 1943. He was part of a crew aboard a B-24D Liberator that was on a reconnaissance mission in advance of the Allied attack on the Japanese stronghold of Rabaul, New Guinea.

During the mission, they were radioed to land at a friendly air strip because of poor weather. Continue reading »
